Maintaining a blog for business is one of the surefire ways to promote your products and services to a wider audience. However, maintaining a blog is not an easy task. More than basic grammar and writing skills, you need a thorough knowledge of your company and products, a clear idea of your goals, and a genuine interest to communicate and get to know your target audience on a more personal level.

  1. Set a fixed posting schedule. There is no need to post a new entry everyday. Not only is it tedious, but posting too much too soon leaves some of your readers missing out on important updates. Updating once to thrice a week is acceptable. Figure out how much time you can set aside for blogging and stick to your schedule.

One effective method is bulk writing. Create three to five blog entries on a day when you have more free time. Some blog platforms automatically queue entries to be posted on dates you specify.

  1. Make an outline of your topics. Plan your posts ahead of time and create an outline of topics you would like to touch on. This way your blog would look more unified and less redundant. Write down possible titles so that next time you would sit down to write a blog post, you research and writing activities are more focused.
  2. Keep a commonplace notebook. Thinking about what to blog about next can take up time you could have used in writing a blog post instead. So keep a notebook handy at all times so that each time you get a burst of inspiration or are suddenly struck by a bright idea, you can quickly write it down for future reference.
  3. Make good use of idle time. During times when you find yourself not doing anything such as in between breaks or while commuting, you can reply to blog comments, improve your blog layout, or write down ideas. When it is time for you to write a blog post, you will not be distracted by minor tasks such as these.
  4. Reply to several comments at the same time. It is necessary that blogs for business give timely response to questions, queries, and comments posted by users. It gives the impression that you are sincere and reliable. However, replying to one or two comments at a time affects your productivity. Wait until there are about seven to ten pending comments before responding to all of them. This also gives a chance for your readers to interact with each other.

It is likely that you have several competitors vying for the attention of your target market, so if your readers get bored reading an extremely long entry, you are only driving them away towards competing sites. In cases when you think the information you like to share would take a lot more than 1,000 words, separate one entry in two or three parts.
